Gyeonggi’s Official Podcast Holds First Open Talk with Audience (190826-3) Gyeonggi Provinceoperating an internet podcast, titled ‘Gyeonggi Hohwang (호황) Show’, that covers diverse provincial policy-related topics. Recently, this podcast presented an open talk session with audience members. It also featured popular guestsbehind-the-scenes stories as well as audience participation events. ► ‘Gyeonggi Hohwang Show’, Gyeonggi Province’s Official Podcast Launched this past February, the Gyeonggi Hohwang (호황) Show, meaning “prosperity show,”the province’s official podcast. Itledpopular hosts, the deputy director of Gyeonggi’s News Media Team,a lawyer. =- This podcastgaining popularity with the number of subscriberssurpassed 8,000increasing. ► Gyeonggi Arts Center (August 24) Gyeonggi Hohwang Show’s Open Talk with Audience Held at the Gyeonggi Arts Center on Saturday, August 24, this podcast’s meeting with audience members started with a performancea rap musician followedthe comical blindfolded appearance of a lawyer, one of the show’s hosts. ► Kim Myo-seong, Deputy Director, Gyeonggi Province News Media Team “Go away economic slump! Here we go for a booming Gyeonggi! The Gyeonggi Hohwang Show!” Also featured were congratulatory videospopular entertainers as well asGyeonggi Province Govern==or Lee Jae-myung (이재명). [Sync] “Lawyer Park s himself to be my devoted fan.” / “Right! Salute!” ► Behind-the-Scenes StoriesAudience Participation The first part of the show included the presentation of five news itemsother popular episodes edthe show’s hosts as well as behind-the-scenes stories, the second part included communication with audience members through counsellinggames. Gyeonggi Secures Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Support for Indoor School Gymnasium Construction (190827-1) Gyeonggi Province recently secured budgetary supportthe Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly for its indoor school gymnasium construction projects, which willnext year at approximately 170 schools. ► Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex (August 26) 3rd Gyeonggi Province – Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Policy Council Meeting At the third Policy Council Meeting with the provincial administration, the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly gave its support after agreeing to a cost sharing ratio among related authorities as adjustedthe original proposal madethe assembly during the first meeting in February. ► Yeom Jong-hyeon, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member (Democratic Party) Joint Chair, Gyeonggi Province – Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Policy Council “After close communicationdiscussions based on understandingtrust, we could finally reach an agreement at today’s meeting. The Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly agreed to provide active support for the implementation of the indoor school gymnasium construction project.” The indoor school gymnasium construction project aims to enable students to engage in physical activities despite atmospheric conditions that may limit such activities outdoors. ► Provisional Agreement in Budget Sharing Ratio Seventy percent of indoor gymnasium construction costs will be bornethe Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, the provincialrelevant local governments will bear 15 percent each. ► Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor for Peace Lee Hwa-young Joint Chair, Gyeonggi Province – Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Policy Council “Through financialadministrative support, we will do our utmost to realize indoor school gymnasium construction project progress as planned.” ► Indoor School Gymnasium Construction to Begin Next Year Out of 417 schools without indoor gymnasiums in the province, related construction can nowat 272 schools next year. The Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly spokesperson confirmed the provision of support that would enableprimary schools, middle schoolshigh schools in the province to have indoor gymnasiums within two years.   3. Gyeonggi Governor Visits Demolition Sites of Illegal Mountain Valley Restaurants (190826-1) This year, Gyeonggi Province began environment restoration work in mountain valleysalong rivers via crackdowns on illegal businesses occupying such locations, especially during the summer. Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung (이재명) recently visited restaurant demolition sites in mountain valleys to view the work in progress. This mountain valleycrowded with summer holiday seekers. However, every useable space along the streamoccupiedlong tables installedrestaurants that charge exorbitantly for their use as well as for compulsory food orders. Gyeonggi Provinceeradicating such illegal business activities at holiday locations. ► Demolition Site, Yangju City (August 23) Governor Lee visited the demolition sites of illegal facilities at Yangju (양주) City’s popular mountain valley summer destinations. Most business owners at these sites agreed to close their businessesleave the valleys. ► Jang Jin-sam, Seokhyeon-ri Resident Chief “There were 43 potential business operations here. Of those, removal workcomplete at three locations it’s 60-70 percent complete at the remaining 40 locations. We plan to finishworktheof this month.” Some business owners appealed for the deferment of the strict provincial measures. ► [Sync] Seokhyeon-ri Resident “It’s a little too harsh. We received a warning letter every year. However, we always assumed that, as always, nothing would happen.” According to current laws, the illegal occupation of mountain streamspunishableimprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to KRW 20 million. Other business owners suggested seeking alternative ways in which to attract tourists outside valleys. ► [Sync] Seokhyeon-ri Resident “Most businesses that leave the valleys for higher ground face difficulties using spacestructures. We wish that we could be allowed to maintain, for example, bungalowsother temporary structures, as long as they docrowd the environment. We would then be prepared to do business up on higher ground instead of down in valleys.” ► Governor Lee Orders Strict Measures against Illegal Occupation of Waterways During a senior officials’ general meeting on August 12, Governor Lee ordered the strict application of measures so as to ensure that no illegal businesses occupy valleysstreams next summer. ► Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung “I believe that such [strict] measures conform to fair world values. I believe that those business owners will overcome current difficulties cooperating with local government policies. Then, together, we will be able to find ways in which to improve the situation rationally.” Gyeonggi Provincedetermined to recover clean mountain valleysnext year through strict controlrestoration work.  4. Gyeonggi Operates History Tours for Middle School Students (0826) Gyeonggi Provinceoperating history tours of national independence movement sites in ChinaRussia for middle school students so as to enable them to learn about the lives of independence fighters first hand. GTV followed a tour group that visited such sites in China. ► Hongkew Park, Shanghai, China In Hongkew Park in Shanghai,independence fighter Yun Bong-gil (윤봉길) attacked ranking Japanese officials in 1932, students listen to a deion of the eventview the personal items leftYun. Students are most touchedthe photo of Yun holding a pistola grenade beside a national flag, taken 3 days before the attack. ► Hong Seo-hyeon, Gyeonggi Middle School Student Historic Site Expedition Team Member “I am filled with mixed emotions that touch my heart, seeing in person the objects that I previously saw in a textbook.” ► Korean Provisional Government Officials Hideout, Jiaxing Shi, Jejiang Province, China Students then move to Jiaxing Shi to visit a placethe officials of the Korean Provisional Government, including Kim Gu (김구), stayed hidden. Kimhis family had to move continuouslyone hideout to another. ► Yun Do-hyeon, Gyeonggi Middle School Student - History Tour Member “It must have been really hard for the entire family to live in such a small house. It looks peaceful now, but in a tense situationthose days, I can’t imagine how difficult it was…” ► Gyeonggi Operates Educational History Tour for Middle School Students This middle school student history tour program was launchedGyeonggi Province to commemorate the centennial of the establishment of the Korean Provisional Government in Shanghai. ► 4-Day Tour of National Independence Movement Sites in ChinaRussia During the first phase of the program, more than 1,000 students, divided into 33 teams, will experience a 4 day-tour of important independence movement sites in ChinaRussia. ► Kim Ju-I, Gyeonggi Middle School Student – History Tour Member “It was a wonderful experience through which I could better learn about history. It made me look at historyread history booksa perspective that differsthose of other students.”   5. 338th Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Extraordinary Session Begins (0827) On August 16, the 338th Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Extraordinary Session opened for a 16-day run during which more than 50 items will be reviewed. ► Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly (August 26) 1st General Meeting of 338th Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Extraordinary Session This session will also include administrative inquiries. The items to be reviewed include ordinance drafts as well as a revised supplementary budget required to respond to Japanese trade restrictions. ► Revised Supplementary Budget to Minimize DamageJapanese Export Restrictions This revised supplementary budget will be used primarily to minimize the damage experiencedaffected enterprises. ► Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung “… to be in sync with the keynotes of central government’s revised supplementary budget focusing on closely responding to Japanese export regulations.” Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Chairperson Song Han-jun (송한중) offered assurances that this revised supplementary budget will be reviewed with special care. ► Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Chairperson Song Han-jun “We will pay special attention to enable the localization of related materialsthe implementation of various support policies so as to strengthen the technical competitiveness of enterprises in a timely manner.” The ordinance drafts include those for small business protectionsupport as well as for the improvement of travel convenience for individuals with limited mobility. The first general meeting of the session saw 5-minute speechesassembly members. ► Hwang Dae-ho, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member (Democratic Party) “I truly hope that the Japanese enterprises that ted war crimes will sincerely apologizemake reparations to Koreansbecome regardedGyeonggi students as exemplary enterprises that are trustedrespectedinternational society,” ► Gwon Jeong-seon, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member (Democratic Party) “Please expand the number of childcare centers that provide special care services for children with disabilities. The realitythat the numbers of working couplesmulticultural families are increasingspecial care for children with disabilities mustbe delayed any more.” Inquiriesassembly members regarding administrative matters took place on August 2728.   6. Gyeonggi to Cautiously Pursue ExchangeCooperation with Japan (0828) When asked about Japanese restrictions on exports to KoreaGyeonggi Provincial Assembly members during administrative inquiries on August 27, Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung (이재명) answered that the provinceprepared to review formal cooperationa long-term perspective avoiding tourism-related projects. ► Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly (August 27) 2nd General Meeting of 338th Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Extraordinary Session The second general meeting of the 338th Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Extraordinary Session began with questions regarding administrative matters. An assembly member asked Governor Lee about his views on suspending exchange projects with Japanese autonomies that are no longer beneficial. ► Park Chang-sun, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member (Democratic Party) “Shouldn’t you reconsider making formal visits to Japan that generate no tangible benefits…” Governor Lee answered that, in the public’s mind, Japana nation thatboth neardistant;that we should deal with such matters carefullya long-term perspective. ► Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung “I think we must carefully consider suspending formal exchange projects helps resolve the problems. I will deal with such matters after carefully considering the proscons in terms of benefits to the people.” ► Gyeonggi to Selectively Pursue Projects with Japan Governor Lee added that tourism-related projects are better avoided formal projects need to be considereda long-term perspective,that decisions will be made depending on related purposescontents. Another assembly member voiced support for the Gyeonggi regional currency, deeming it a successful new economic tem,proposed its expansion to cooperatives. ► Kim Gyeong-ho, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member (Democratic Party) “The regional currency isbeing used (for cooperatives) although they can best serve the purpose of regional currency. I believe, therefore, that regional currency should be made applicable to cooperatives...” Stating that the regional currency tem needs continuous improvement, Governor Lee affirmed that adjustmentscorrections will be made regarding cooperatives shortly. The general meeting was followed5-minute speechesassembly members. ► Kim Jin-il, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member (Democratic Party) “In the present situation,we import trashJapanuse it to build homes for Gyeonggi residents, I urge you to resolve the issue throughpossible means including actively recommending the productionthe use of eco-friendly cement that contains no harmful substances.” ► Shin Jeong-hyeon, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member (Democratic Party) “Third-phase new towns must become sources of hope. They should offer placeswe can live for as long as we want,we can enjoy lifestyles that include evenings since workplaces are close, whereyouths receive creative education,where sustainable energy independencerealized…” The 338th Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Extraordinary Session continued on August 28 with the third general meeting.   7. Korea’s First 24-Hour Medical Helicopter Begins Operation in Gyeonggi (190829-1) After comprehensive training exercisestest flights, Gyeonggi Province’s Doctor Helicopter, the first 24-hour medical helicopter in Korea, began emergency patient transportation operations on August 31 forGyeonggi regions. ► Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex (August 29) In the quad of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex, the refurbished Doctor Helicopter lands in a whirl of wind. Featuring diverse medical equipment as well as emergency rescue equipment, this helicoptermore than just a patient transporter; italso an emergency operation room. ► Gyeonggi’s Doctor Helicopter Begins Operation on August 31 From August 31, patients anywhere in Gyeonggi Province can be reachedthe Doctor Helicopter within 1 hour, day or night. ► Lee Guk-jong M.D., Director, South Gyeonggi Trauma Center “Equipped with emergency rescue equipment, this helicopter can be used for highly difficult operations such as mountain rescuesoffshore transportation.” Before the Doctor Helicopter began operation, itthe related personnel underwent comprehensive training exercises. With the registration number plate attached, the Doctor Helicopter took off for its first assignment. Gyeonggi Province allocated 6 emergency rescuers to this helicopterwill continue to expand its landing locations in the province. ► Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung “I know that everyone thinks that they may find themselves in dangerous situationsbe among those rescued. Our efforts will focus on protecting lives instead of satisfying less important wishes.” Doctor Helicopter marks a significant turning pointonly in saving lives within a critical timeframe but also in the development of airborne medical services.
