UNESCO Cities of Literature

The UNESCO Cities of Literature is one of the eight creative fields within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Comprising 63 member cities worldwide, the network promotes literature as a powerful force for cultural exchange, creativity, education, and sustainable urban development.
Cities of Literature work together to strengthen literary culture, support writers and creators, encourage freedom of expression, and expand opportunities for international collaboration. Through festivals, residencies, educational programs, publishing initiatives, and cultural partnerships, the network fosters meaningful connections between people, places, and stories.
Bucheon became Asia's first UNESCO City of Literature and the 21st city worldwide to receive the designation. As a UNESCO Creative City, Bucheon is committed to nurturing creativity as a public value, advancing people-centred and sustainable urban development, promoting cultural diversity, and strengthening international exchange through literature, comics, and storytelling.
