Bucheon City of Literature

Artist Residency

2021 Bucheon Residency for literary artists from UNESCO Cities of Literature

Each year, Bucheon hosts an international residency for writers from UNESCO Cities of Literature, selected through an open call. The residency provides time, space, and opportunities for writers to pursue their creative work while experiencing Bucheon's literary and cultural landscape.
As one of the representative collaborative initiatives within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), the residency encourages literary exchange, supports artistic development, and strengthens international connections among UNESCO Cities of Literature.

About the Bucheon Residency

“My residency was highlighted by a spirited discussion about books and translation with students at Catholic University. I also participated in the first Bucheon Diaspora Literary Award, which was awarded to Ha Jin and his Korean translator. I’m grateful to the city of Bucheon for their dedication to highlighting diaspora literature through the award and forum, and I’m appreciative that they have included translators in their important work. The hospitality and welcoming spirit of Bucheon were a much needed salve for the soul.”
